The Power Of Community

shoutout to Sam McNamara for the image.

As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up – one on one side, one on the other – so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
Exodus 17:11‭-‬13

We need each other. We need each other's help. God built us for community and it's a beautiful thing. For so long I was so hurt by people (mostly church people) and by past experiences and trauma that everytime I'd hear a pastor say: "You can't do life alone, we need community" I'd be so mad. Mad because I knew it was true, I wanted to have community, but I didn't want to get hurt again.

We are all complicated beings, but I learnt the power of loving others and being around others, surrounded by their friendship is a gift from God. He loves to send people to help us and hold our tired arms, to hug our wounded hearts and comfort us with truth when we are blind with pain. Overwhelmed by the circumstances.

So I say give yourself a second chance to step out of the comfort zone where others can't hurt you, extend grace to others, for we are all breaking, but together we are stronger.

Ephesians 4:32
Be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Ecclesiastes 4:9‭-‬12
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: if either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no-one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
